Polyglot is in the process of creating a new show, The Block, which will undertake a creative development in early 2009.  The Block will premiere during a Regioanl Arts Victoria Arts2Go schools tour in October 2009.

The Block creates a block of flats, with each window featuring a different life full of dysfunctional characters. The Block is a disaster movie. It delves into the ordinary lives and daily routines of a very diverse community where neighbour issues are made potently clear. The challenge to them all occurs when a fire threatens the block. Each tenant brings a different skill, resource or emotion to the situation as they struggle to escape.

The soundscape will explore the atmosphere of life at the flats, the emotional effect of sound, the strong connection between puppetry and music to create character sub text and the layering of unexpected sound effects to feed the absurdity of the situation. We will explore a highly eclectic puppetry style; combining objects, shadows, hand/rod puppets, Bunraku, sudden shifts of scale and thereby humorously portraying a broad cultural mix without didacticism. This project explores the role of the puppeteer as the landlord - manipulator, controller and powermonger.
